Anti Haul Weekly

Dorothy Must Die

By Danielle Paige

Synopsis:

I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road—but even that's crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.

I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.

I've been trained to fight.

And I have a mission.

My Thoughts:

When this first came out I was so excited. I wanted to read this book so bad. Unlike most of the others that I've done Anti Haul Weeklys on I don't really have strong feelings on this one. I just feel like I'm past the point in my life where I would want to read this. I used to really love the Wizard of Oz, I thought it was so fun and I've watched it several times. I just don't love it as much as I did back then. I feel no desire to buy this book or even read this book. I also just think that this is a very 2014 book. Just from reading the synopsis, I think it really coasted on the fact that dystopians were really big at the time. I know this book is not dystopian, but it really gives me the sort of vibes that early 2010s dystopians had right before they died out. It just sounds like something I wouldn't enjoy reading anymore.
