Top 10 Books I'd Save In a Fire

I was watching makeup videos on Youtube, like I often do, when I stumbled upon a video about the makeup products this girl would repurchase if she lost everything. I liked this idea and turned it into books instead of makeup. Unlike all those other times I'm not cheating with this one! This list is compiled of individual books I would snag on my way out of my house if it were burning down around me. So no series'. There are no ebooks included in this. These are all books on my bookshelf that I would grab in a moments notice. These are in no particular order this week, these are just books that I would definitely grab for if I only had a few minutes.

1. The Chamber of Secrets

I know this one isn't most people's favorite but when I originally read the series this was really up there when I was considering my favorite Harry Potter books. You know, I really would grab this one while rushing out the door.

2. I’ll Give You the Sun

This book is so bittersweet. It's a really sad book, but in the end, the sweetness just rises to the surface. This is also one of my favorite books. You know, if my house burned down I would need a smile after all of that sadness.

3. The Outsiders

Kinda funny that this is on a list of books I would save in a fire considering the contents of this book. If you know, you know. I know I could easily buy another copy of this, but I feel as though it would bring me some semblance of comfort in the face of losing everything to a house fire.

4. Order of the Phoenix

This has always been one of my favorite Harry Potter books. I read this in 5 days and was so proud of myself when I had accomplished such a feat. My copy of the Order of the Phoenix has seen better days. The spine is all cracked up, I dog eared some fo the pages. It's a truly well-loved book and holds a lot of sentimental value.

5. Half-Blood Prince

This was always my favorite Harry Potter book. It's been so long since I've actually read the book, so it's hard to explain exactly what lead this to be my favorite. I just remember loving Ginny in this book, loving her relationship with Harry, loving all the glimpses at the Mauraders, and loving all the little subplots along with, of course, Quidditch.

6. Hopeless

When I was looking at my bookshelf thinking of what I wanted to save, I saw this book and immediately knew I would grab it. I've reread this book maybe 10 times since I first read it in 2013? 2014? This is the first book that after reading an ebook I decided I needed a physical copy and so I bought one. It is well-loved and I couldn't imagine not saving it.

7. City of Lost Souls

I think I may be alone in this but this was my favorite of the Mortal Instruments series. I remember while reading this I just kept putting in little slips of paper on pages where there as something I enjoyed. Needless to say by the end of reading the book was packed full of slips of paper. Not only that but when I lent it to my friend to read she added in a few of her own little slips of paper. Also not to mention my mom picked it up for me on her way home from work. I'm still surprised she actually got the right book considering she knows nothing about YA and literally never remembers anything I ask her to buy. This book just holds too much sentimental value for me to give it up.

8. Hideaway

While the other books on this list are all books I've had for many years and hold a lot of sentimental value for, this is one of the newer books I have read and would risk it in a fire just to grab my copy. I know I've already read this book over a dozen times, but I could read it a dozen more times. It was a hard choice between this one and Killswitch, but I felt like Hideaway was the right choice for this list. Yet another book with buildings on fire ;)

9. Carry On

If my house burned down today I would grab this just because I loved it so much and I would honestly just want my copy to reread right before the sequel comes out.

10. Shadow Kiss

I love the Vampire Academy series so much. Shadow Kiss has by far been my favorite book of the series and I just know that if I could only pick one of them to bring with me it would be this one.

When making this list I actually really surprised myself. I have stacks of special edition books, books signed by authors, books that I won in giveaways, yet none of those actually made it onto this list. Kinda funny how that works, you know. So I gotta ask what books would you guys save if there was a fire?

Waiting on Wednesday

Where Winter Finds You (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #17.5)
Where Winter Finds You
by J. R. Ward

Release Date: November 26th, 2019

Synopsis:

When Trez lost his beloved to a tragic death (The Shadows, Black Dagger Brotherhood #13), his soul was crushed and his destiny seemed relegated to suffering. But when he meets a mysterious female, he becomes convinced his true love has been reincarnated. Is he right? Or has his grief created a disastrous delusion?

Therese has come to Caldwell to escape a rift with her bloodline. The revelation that she was adopted and not born into her family shakes the foundations of her identity, and she is determined to make it on her own. Her attraction to Trez is not what she’s looking for, except the sexy Shadow proves to be undeniable.

Has fate provided a grieving widower with a second chance…or is Trez too blinded by the past to see the present for what it really is? In this sensual, arresting book full of the themes of redemption and self-discovery, two lost souls find themselves at a crossroads where the heart is the only compass that can be trusted…but that may require a courage that neither of them possesses.

My Thoughts:

I haven't actually read any of the side novels that are a part of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series before as I haven't really had any interest in them. However, this one really speaks to me. When I finished reading The Shadows I felt like Trez got such a shit ending to his story compared to all the others and was hoping with all my heart that he would get his happy ending. I can't remember which book it was in but I do remember Lassiter saying something about Trez having to be patient, that it would end well. I was assuming it was just going to be some sort of subplot in a future book but I'm happy to see that there is going to be an actual conclusive full-length novel bringing Trez's story to a proper ending. I can't even express how excited I am to read this when it comes out in November.

Top 10 Old School Ships

Well, you can tell I had a really slow June. I really only read 3 new books this month so I didn't have much to talk about. It was so hard to pick a top 10. Obviously, I'm not in the same mindset as I was back then so it was pretty hard finding book relationships that I wasn't biased with because of time. I think I have a good arrangement here though. Also, I have to point out that some of these I no longer ship, these were from when I was like eleven to fourteen.

10. Harry and Ginny

They were one of my first ships. When I was really Harry Potter I was never really interested in the romantic relationships of the characters. I mean, I was eleven when I read Harry Potter so romance was sort of the furthest thing from my mind. At the time I honestly didn't ship any of the characters. I only started shipping Harry and Ginny during the Half-Blood Prince because of Harry's blossoming feelings for Ginny. This one is very close to me.

9. Lolita and Humbert

I was actually debating whether or not I even wanted to include this on my list, but I felt it was kind of important that I do so. I was fourteen when I read Lolita, so I was so incredibly impressionable. Now, at nineteen I realize just how fucked up their relationship was. I actually really grosses me out thinking about how I did think their relationship was okay, back in the say.

8. Ella and Micha

The Secret of Ella and Micha still maintains its place as one of my favorite books of all time. I just love the dynamic between these two characters and I will always have this giddy feeling whenever I think back to when I first read their story.

7. Jude and Lucy

This was one fo the first legit new adult romances I was exposed to. I made all my friends read it, I legit loved this trilogy so much at the time and I loved Jude and Lucy so much. They aren't as much of a favorite now as they used to be, but I do still have warm feelings about them.

6. Daemon and Katy

I get such strong emotions when I think of these two. I first read Obsidian about 6-7 years ago. I had discovered it from a blog post where the blogger posted a few quotes from the book and I instantly fell in love with these two. They have definitely stood the test of time for me.

5. Zoey and Stark

Way back when I used to be obsessed with the House of Night Series. Don't hold it against me, I was 12 and didn't know any better. These two were my goals until I got older and realized how much I hated their relationship. The rest of the couples on this list I still love, but these two were knocked off their high horse.

4. Isabel and Cole

I'm still obsessed with these two. When I first read the original Shiver Trilogy I didn't even really care about Sam and Grace, I just wanted more moments with Isabel and Cole. I honestly hated how things ended up between them so much, but then Maggie Stiefvater blessed us all with Sinner and I haven't been the same since.

3. Rose and Dimitri

You guys know how much I love these two. And if you don't then Hi welcome to my blog, you must be new here. The author doesn't often do this, but whenever she releases a little short or something new I am on it. If she ever decided to rewrite the series from Dimitri's point of view I would read every word because I just want more of these two. They really shaped my little preteen mind.

2. Clary and Jace

The best parts of Queen of Air and Darkness was the moments when these two showed up. I just didn't appreciate their relationship enough when I was younger. I know some of you are gonna be like "What about Will and Tessa?" and I will respond with, I love them just as much, but there is a bit more nostalgia with Jace and Clary and I just didn't feel right about taking up another spot on this list for Will and Tessa. Know that I still absolutely adore those two.

1. Damon and Elena

Who else? I used to post all sorts of Damon and Elena stuff all over my social media. And no it wasn't just from the show, I loved them so much that I actually read the books. I read all of the books that were actually written by L. J. Smith. I was Delena's biggest supported and there is nothing more nostalgic for me than these two.
