The Crown Book Talk

The Crown (The Selection, #5)
The Crown
by Kiera Cass
Spoilers

Summary:

When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.

Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.

My Thoughts:

I gave this book 5 stars. It was infinitely better than the Heir. I liked the Heir. I love this. I had all the feels while reading this.

Can we just stop for a moment and appreciate the fact that Maxon tells dad jokes? Okay just let that sink in for a moment.

Literally the page before Hale came out I guessed that he was gay. Okay hear me out. He is kind of a walking stereo type. 1. His best friend is a girl and he is actually disgusted by the thought of being with her romantically. 2. He is totally into fashion. I mean he resized a dress to fit Eady. 3. He is totally uninterested in marrying her. He seemed like he wanted to before and they got really close and now he is distant and is backing out. I called it.

When he went into his relationship with Ean, I did that fangirl thing. You know the one where you flail and make the pterodactyl screech over something cute your ship does? I totally did that. I ship it so hard.

I had a bad feeling about Marid, but I like trashed the idea that he could possibly be bad just before we found out he was a snake. So I wasn't too surprised.

The whole Lady Brice thing totally sideswiped me. The only redeeming quality the king had was that he loved the queen so much and was so dedicated to her. Now to find out he had a mistress? That just made me so upset. I like Lady Brice though, no matter where she came from.

Okay time to address the elephant in the room. I also knew that Eadlyn  would choose Erik (I'm calling him Erik cause I don't remember how to spell his actual name.) During the Heir she would get all warm and fuzzy around him. Not the same feeling as any of the contestants. Plus, during the Crown, when Eady is about to make out with Henri in the middle of their lesson, Erik drops a book loudly so that they don't. Then another time, this is a big one, Erik gave Eady his fucking Heirloom Wedding Ring, for the woman he is supposed to marry. Is this not the biggest hint ever? Foreshadowing.

Quotes:

"Look! Your terrible jokes are now life threatening. You have to stop them."

"Pfft," Dad turned to her. "What do you know about picking husbands? Last time you tried that, you got stuck with me."

"Part of me worried that somehow, everyone would be able to hear my pulse beating out his name if he got any closer."

^Eady casually having a Tell-Tale Heart moment.

Top 5 Summer Reads

5. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids

Although this book isn't one of my favourites, I still think about it as a summer book, it will forever be branded as a summer book in my mind.

4. I'll Give You the Sun

This book did not take place in the summer. I just for some reason get a very summery vibe when i read it. Maybe it's because it's contemporary or maybe it's because it has sun in the title, because I associate both of those things with summer. I have no idea actually.

3. Since You've Been Gone

This book is all about getting things done in the summer, summer job, summer fling, summer mischief. All the fun teen summer things.

2. Pretty much every Abbi Glines book ever

Her book usually take place in a beach town. Two of her most famous series are Sea Breeze and Rosemary Beach, which both scream summer. So she had to be on this list.

1. The Summer I Turned Pretty

My all time favourite summer book. My friend made me read this, I wasn't sure about it at first I really actually didn't want to read it, but then I did and I fell in love. I read it in one sitting. It was fast paced and fun and I really wanted it to be my reality.

Waiting on Wednesday

In honour of the cover finally being released, I chose Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. I have already pre ordered this book and I honestly need it now. This is the fifth book to one of my all time favourite book series. Why isn't this out already?

Top 10 Book Ships

I have limited myself to one ship per book series or book. Whichever. Or else this would just be a Mortal Instruments ship list. Also, all of these ships are going to be cannon. All of my non cannon ships are for another list. Mild spoilers. If you don't recognize the names, you probably haven't read the book so just skip over it if you don't want any spoilers what so ever.

10. Patch and Nora

Patch antagonizes Nora so much in the series and she just gets so flustered, I honestly find their relationship so endearing.

9. Damon and Elena

I have been a hardcore Delena shipper for as long as I can remember. Even when Elena was with Stefan I shipped Delena. I never shipped Stelena. Okay and to clear it up, I loved them in and out of the books. Delena forever.

8. Katy and Daemon

Their bickering brings me to life. Katy can take it and give it back to Daemon and I love that. She is sassy and he's an asshole. Match made in heaven. Or hell I guess. Depends on how you look at it.

7. Juliette and Warner

Okay unlike most, I loved Warner straight away. He seemed evil in a good way and I have a thing for villains. Anyway I hated Adam, he was only dragging Juliette down. Making her more of a scared little girl. Warner brought out the fearless side in her that was no longer afraid of her power.

6. Kricket and Kyon

At first these two were my NOTP. Kyon didn't seem to have a single redeeming quality, I mean he almost drugs her, and then at the end he bitch slaps her and I hated that. I cannot stand it that he played it off like it was nothing. I wasn't even really sure about him in the second book, but in the third he won me over. Him and Kricket are perfect together. I ship it.

5. Noah Shaw and Mara Dyer

How do I even get into this one? They are both hilarious, in different ways of course. Mara is all mysterious and damaged while Noah is cocky and carefree. I don't really know how to out this all into words, other than a series of quotes from the book itself.

4. Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood

That wasn't the quote you expected was it?

Magnus helped Alec with realising that it was okay that he was gay. He didn't have to be ashamed of who he was and he was loved. Plus Magnus was very persistent. And whenever I think of Malec, I just think of the first time they met when Magnus is fucking hitting on Alec while he was still "straight" and Alec is just so bewildered and doesn't know what to do. Beautiful.

3. Baz and Simon

I devoured Carry On in one day. It was like the Harry and Draco fan fiction that was written and somehow got published and I'm very glad it did. You know how when you're a kid and you're mean to that kid you have a crush on so that they don't know that you have a crush on them and you basically become their bully? That's basically what Baz did. While this is happening Simon is just too busy think that Baz is the Antichrist to realize that he has feelings for him.

2. Rose and Dimitri

Dimitri is the calm to Rose's storm. I'm pretty sure I've said that before. Rose is pretty much a snarky bitch who is out of control, she is one of my favourite characters. You never really know what Dimitri is thinking which is why it's so much better when he reveals how he feels about Rose. They are very passionate and I was actually debating whether or not to make them number one on this list. I decided against it though.

1. Wessa

Tessa picked up the pieces of the scared little boy and put them back together. Will talks a big talk, he is sarcastic and cocky and hella entertaining but, he was terrified before Tessa came around and mended his hurt. And then he returned the favour.

Thinking about Will and Tessa almost has me in tears. I just need a moment.

Le sigh. I love them.

Seven Deadly Sins Book Tag

1. Greed~ What is your most inexpensive book? What is your most expensive book?

My most inexpensive book is The Great Gatsby. I cost 3 dollars.

My most expensive book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, illustrated edition.

2. Wrath~ What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Becca Fitzpatrick. I loved the Hush Hush series, but everything she has written since has just fallen flat. I feel like she can do so much better.

3. Gluttony~ What book have you devoured over and over again with no shame?

The Secret of Ella and Micha. When I first read this, I read it that day, then I woke up the next morning and read it again. Then I did that for about a week. Now I just reread it periodically. I could actually go for a reread about now.

4. Sloth~ What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?

Because it is my Blood. I bought this book 3? years ago, I haven't even tried to read it, I keep putting it off, I know that I really must read it, I just don't want to right now.

5. Pride~ What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

Lolita. It is a mature book that is very complex, I like to bring it up and psychoanalyze it to prove to everyone else that I am a superior human being capable of complex thought processes. Just cause I do this doesn't mean that I am actually capable of complex thought processes.

6. Lust~ What attributes do you find attractive in male characters?

He has to be funny. I find funny guys so attractive. If a guy is funny enough, it doesn't even matter how I initially felt about him. You can do no wrong with funny.

7. Envy~ What book would you most like to receive as a gift?

I really want the Martian, I still haven't read it and it's been so long. I need to read it and I haven't been able to find it yet, so hopefully someone else will have better luck at finding it for me.

I tag literally anyone, I just can't think of anyone to tag, so you are tagged mysterious person I have never met before.
