Sunday Favorites: Damon Salvatore

“It's not wrong to hustle hustlers. It's like killing murderers, a public service.

I've only done books for this Sunday Favorites thing so I thought it was time to transition to some of my favorite characters!

I've decided to start with my 7-year fictional boyfriend, Damon Salvatore.

Whether it’s on screen or on pages, Damon Salvatore is one of my all-time favorite fictional characters. The thing that sets Damon apart from all my other book boyfriends is that he is different on the show and in the book and yet I still love him in both.

Damon is such a complex character, he starts out as the bad guy that no one trusts and people just want to get rid of him, and he transforms into everyone's favorite bad boy who isn’t so bad. He has a tragic backstory that we don’t get to see right away but once we do we finally understand him.

In the books, Damon is very suave, incredibly manipulative, and very dark. I also pictured book Damon differently than from the show. Damon is said to be Italian so I had this whole tall dark and handsome image of him going on in my head. Very sophisticated and despite the fact that he was evil, still very classy. He always seems to be very much in control of himself and situations.

“Damon, leather and silk and fine chiseled features. Mercurial and devastating.”

Damon on the show is a whole other story. Damon is the snark master man whore who sleeps with half the characters on the show. He’s dark and damaged and I would say he’s tall dark and handsome, but there is definitely a difference between how L. J. Smith wrote him and how Ian Somerhalder played him. Damon seems to be a bit of a mess in the show. He gets drunk and does irrational things that make people hate him.

“I've been in love. It's painful, pointless and overrated.”

Love him or hate him, you have to admit, Damon Salvatore is a dynamic character. He changes and does things that surprise us. An I personally love him very much for it. What I love most about Damon is that even though he has a tragic backstory and has some pretty shitty things done to him, he tries to get past it. He doesn't mope around, maybe he got vices, but it's better than moping.

After writing this I now have to go and rewatch the entire tv series.

How do you feel about Damon? Love him or hate him?

Pulse Spoiler Free Review

Pulse
Pulse
by Danielle Koste

Release Date: January 1st, 2017

Synopsis:

Rowan Platts is addicted to success.

When she's presented with the chance to work on a top secret project fronted by her idol, renowned virologist Dr. Margot Miller, Rowan signs her life away without second thought. The realization she’s gotten in over her head comes only after the subject of their study is revealed: a boy with a bad attitude and an uninhibited taste for human blood.

He's a medical anomaly. Having the ability to crush metal with his bare hands and hear a heartbeat from across the room, it would make Rowan’s career if she was the one to discover what made him so unusual.

Easier said than done, with a subject who prefers snapping necks over answering questions.

My Thoughts:

I received a copy for an honest review

I gave this book 5 stars. It was one of those books I was unsure about but ended up not being able to put down. It was such an engaging sci-fi/new adult romance. I would highly recommend it.

Lyall was unexpected. I thought because of what he was, that he was going to be a basic brooding bad boy that was so moody that would be the only thing anyone could focus on. This was not the case. Lyall was such a little shit. Playing without protagonists emotions and just messing with her for fun. It was playful and I loved that.

As for the story itself, I was very pleased with how it played out. The story felt almost metaphoric at times. I don’t know how to describe it. It was very fast paced. The book was around 300 pages and I read the entire thing in two sittings (I decided to take a shower halfway through and then continue). This book will be done in no time.

I loved how his condition was never given a name. I know everyone thinks vampire right away, but I like how it was rationalized and how there was that scientific element to a classic myth.

The story felt edgy, almost like a plotline in American Horror Story but with a happier ending. The atmosphere of the story was creepy. It felt isolated because we only had about 5 important characters, the story was very contained to just a few of them.

Overall, creepy and engaging, I would definitely recommend that you give this book a read. It’s refreshing and I think it adds something new to the genre.

Top 5 Books Featuring Vampires (Adult Romance Version)

This weeks topic for Top 5 Wednesday was Books Featuring the Paranormal creature of your choice so I decided to choose vampires, but since I have another list planned out for a Top 10 Tuesday, I decided to make this one an adult romance edition because it's a little different, to say the least.

5. Chicagoland Vampires

I started reading this series years ago and I just haven't finished it. I'm maybe halfway through the series, I just got distracted and never continued. One day I will, but until then, I will enjoy the good memories.

4. Black Dagger Brotherhood

I still have not finished this series, but I'm loving it so much. Each story is so different and has tons of different layer, although at times I could say it may have a bit too many layers, it is very good nonetheless.

3. Night Prince Series

This series is so good! I haven't read the fourth book yet, but I will get to it soon enough, I just haven't been in the mood for paranormal lately and have been hooked on Penelope Douglas books, but once I get over that I am going to read the shit out of the fourth book. If you like Jericho Barrons I would highly suggest reading this series.

2. Lothaire

Currently re-reading this one because I was hit with a craving to read it late last night. It is the one that made me decide to choose vampires for this list, in fact. This book is an A+ and I would highly recommend reading it.

1. A Hunger Like No Other

This is by far my favorite book when it comes to mixing adult romances with vampires. As I am a huge fan of both I found this to be a perfect mixture of action and sexiness.

What are some of your favorite books containing paranormal creatures?

Top 10 Classic Paranormal Creatures

Well in most places it probably isn't even still Tuesday, but I live on the West Coast so for me it's still technically Tuesday so I'm going with it.

I'm keeping the creatures on this list simple. The classic monsters such as werewolves, vampires, witches, angels, demons, and fairies. The stuff that have all kinds of myths and legends around them. Nothing new or made up, no gods or demigods or other obscure creatures of the night. Just the classics.

Some of these also have spoilers being that some of the characters aren't open with who they are right off the bat. So if you keep reading there may be some spoilers ahead.

10. Derek

As a character Derek probably isn't my favorite, but whenever I think supernatural creature and werewolf, he is always the first one to pop into my mind. He is the quintessential werewolf.

9. Cole St. Claire

This werewolf just has the strangest personality and I'm completely drawn to it. Cole St. Claire is maybe not the best person in the world, but he is a really interesting werewolf with a purposeful backstory.

8. Ace

A fae who recently swooped in and stole my heart, pun intended. I didn't see it coming but it happened and I just want more of him.

7. Patch Cipriano

I don't know what to refer to him as. Angel? Fallen Angel? Could really be either, although I did prefer him while he was a fallen angel so I guess we'll stick with that. He's a bad boy with a soft heart. You kind of don't know how far he'll go at times, but it doesn't matter because he knows where the line is.

6. Damon Salvatore

Damon is the OG book boyfriend. He was the one who ignited my love for vampire novels in the first place. I regret nothing, just like him.

5. Will Herondale

This half angel half human is the love of my life. He is such a perfect character. Sarcasm and jokes to hide his pain, his love of books, him loving the people around him so much that he is willing to give up everything he ever wanted to make sure that they were happy. Will is too good for this world which is why he is fictional.

4. Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger is the best role model for young girls. She's smart and brave and ruthless when she needs to be. She's the brightest witch of her age and we love her for it.

2. + 3. Rose Hathaway and Dimitri Belikov

I couldn't decide which one had to be 2 and which one had to be 3. So they get to share the title of both because I love them both equally. As you probably know they are both Dhampires, half human half vampire hybrids. And they are both incredibly badass. These two were the only two characters from the same book series that I even considered putting both of on this list because I just couldn't choose between them.

1. Celaena Sardothian

This one is a huge spoiler as you don't know anything about her being magical throughout the first book and maybe half of the second book. So the fact that she is half fae comes as a bit of a surprise. What shouldn't surprise you is the she is number one of this list. I am pretty sure she was number one on my list of favorite characters in general. She's a badass with or without her magic.

Who are some of your favorite classic Paranormal Creatures?
