Top 10 Favorite Main Characters of 2018

Time for some lady empowerment. So usually I try to get a few men in here but this year all the ladies stole my heart. So no men. Have no fear, I will still have my book boyfriends list later this month;) Also, in order to give other characters a chance, I am not putting any old favorites on here like Aelin because you guys already know I love her so she doesn't need to be on this list. However, she will get an honorable mention for being my fave.

10. Tea

Tea is a badass. I feel like we don't get a lot of books about necromancers and Tea is my favorite necromancer. I still can't figure out how old she is though.

9. Jude

Jude is a human in a world of fairies. Things were bound to get crazy. Jude has an intense sense of loyalty tot hose she loves and even though her family isn't necessarily the most loyal to her, you can tell with Jude that she does mean it.

8. Bitsy

It's been a while since I read this so the details are a bit fuzzy. I do remember however, I really loved reading about Bitsy and from her point of view. Her story was pretty intense.

7. Sadie

Sadie had such a tragic story. I feel that often in mysteries and thrillers the characters are often not very likable, but Sadie was. She was so realistic and you couldn't help but root for her despite knowing things probably wouldn't end well for her. Sadie was a gem.

6. Fallon

Fallon had so much shit go on in her life. I loved following her throughout the years as she grew and changed and just become more confident in herself. Colleen Hoover is one of the best when it comes to creating realistic and likable characters that you want to root for. Fallon is to date one of my favorite protagonists from her.

5. Greer

Greer is sophisticated and regal. The story itself was pretty over the top and Greer fit right in. Honestly, in love triangles like there was in this book it's always a bit hard to like all three of the characters, but somehow I loved all of them.

4. Hartley Wright

She had her own story, she wasn't just a character there to "tame" Easton Royal. I loved that and I loved her.

3. Four

B. B. Reid always writes main characters that I like. I don't think I've ever disliked a main character she has written. Four likes motorcycles and doesn't give a fuck. That is a whole ass mood.

2. Evie

I always love Jennifer Armentrout's protagonists, Evie was no exception. Evie isn't taking any shit from the people around her. She doesn't put up with assholes and I love that.

1. Serenity

Serenity is from a series that I binged nearing the end of the year. Honestly, I didn't think I was going to have any new faves that close to the end of the year, but I was proved wrong. Serenity is compassionate and a total badass. She just stopped giving a fuck there after the first book.

Who were some of your favorite characters this year? I'd love to hear about them!

Holiday Gift Guide

I don't think I've ever done a holiday gift guide but I've definitely seen loads of these in the past. For some reason this year I just really wanted to do one. So if you want to know what to buy for a book lover or just want to read the post anyway, keep reading!

Romance

Anything Colleen Hoover

If you are trying to find a book for someone who loves romance then you can do no wrong with a Colleen Hoover book. My personal favorite is Hopeless, but November 9 and It Ends With Us are close behind.

Wolfsong

If you're trying to find a good LGBT romance for someone, look no further. It has romance mixed with the paranormal. It was probably the best book I read this year.

Young Adult

Paper Princess

If you are looking for a YA novel with the perfect amount of romance and drama in it then this one would be perfect. More suitable for an older YA reader, better for someone used to YA novels.

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You

This is the first book in the Gallagher Girls series. The first book isn't the best, but the rest of the series really picks up. It has a boarding school, spies, a great friendship, and awkward first loves. Would be really good for someone in their younger teens/preteens, just getting into YA.

Ruby Red

I told you about a younger YA novel and an older YA novel and this one is perfectly in between. There isn't anything too racy and the writing isn't overly simple. Also, it was originally written in German so if your recipient knows German I think it would be fun to read it in its original language. This book is full of time travel and a really cute relationship.

Fantasy

The Name of the Wind

Some people like reading those huge books full of magic and detail and complex characters. This is one of them. This is the first in a trilogy, the second book is out and the third is on its way. This is probably one of the most well-written fantasy novels I have ever read.

Mistborn

This is a high fantasy novel with a female protagonist.  It's epic and immersive. It's got all these characters that you can't help but root for.

Middle Grade

City of Ghosts

This was such a fun little book. Victoria Schwab has written some of my favorites this one is no exception. If you are looking for a book for a child with an active imagination this one would be an excellent choice.

The Iron Trial

This one's fun. It has some similarities to Harry Potter, but it also has a lot of differences. It really takes things at a different angle. If you're looking for a book for someone who enjoys middle-grade fantasy, I can't say enough good things about this one.

A Monster Calls

A Monster Calls is considered a Middle Grade just because it is very easy to understand and the character is so young, but I think it really is a more universal book. It's one of those books with a very complex meaning and an idea that isn't primarily for children. It's one of my favorite books I always seem to suggest this book to everyone even if I know they don't like to read.

Top 10 Most Anticipated Books of 2019

I got a new little banner for my new year top 10 series. I feel weird even calling it a series but I don't know what else to call it. Let's just say I'm using it for the holidays and then I'm switching back to my old banners. These are in no particular order because I'm sure that every single one of these is going to be fucking amazing.

1. World of Throne of Glass

This book is gonna be the epilogue after the epilogue. I'm pumped.

2. Ghosts of the Shadow Market/The Red Scrolls of Magic

Okay so I'm cheating a little bit here, but I felt guilty having Cassie on here twice and it would have taken away another spot for another book, so I decided to combine the two. I'm equally as excited for both of them.

3. The Savior

I read the majority of the books in this series and the spin-off series this year and I'm going to need more to get my fix.

4. The Mermaid’s Voice Returns in This One

The only poetry books I really like and will actually spend my money on.

5. Kill Switch

I was definitely looking forward to reading this one this year, but perfection takes time. Also, I will wait any amount of time for Damon. He's my fave.

6. King of Scars

It's been so long since I've read a book in this world. I'm still a bit burned from the last book I read, but I could never stay away from Leigh Bardugo for that long.

7. War - No cover yet

Just read Pestilence and I'm ready to get my War on.

8. The Moth and the Flame - No cover yet

B. B. Reid along with Penelope Douglas and Erin Watt write some of my favorite teen romances. If The Moth and the Flame is even half as good as the Peer and the Puppet then it will be perfect.

9. Wayward Son

I screamed when I found out about this sequel. Let me just tell you that the moment I can finally preorder this I will. I always thought Carry On ended on a note that called for a sequel and now we're getting it. Hell yes. Also, I know the poster says 2020, but it says 2019 on Goodreads so I'm just gonna assume here that the release date was moved up.

10. Heartsong - No cover yet

So I'm probably going to cry and this is probably going to be my favorite book of 2019. I have high hopes. I also really want some more glimpses of Carter and his new friend.

Most Anticipated Releases of December

There are so many exciting book releases in December and I can't wait to read all of them!

Drago

So I'm pretty sure she actually changed the release date for this one, but I don't remember when exactly it was, so I'm still putting it on this list because it still says December 4th on Goodreads.

Bound by Love

All the Mafia romances in December. I didn't realize I needed this until I read the synopsis and realized I did, in fact, need to read this.

Queen of Air and Darkness

I'm so excited because not only did I preorder this one, I also preordered a special Indigo.ca book box for it so it's got loads of fun things inside.

Tripping on a Halo

This sounds like it's gonna be sexy and hilarious. Can't wait to read it.

Unzipped

This month is really the month of romances. Man, I don't think I've ever had an Anticipated releases list with this many romances on it.

Kiss Collector

I actually have an ARC for this that I still haven't read. I still have time though. I'll get it done. Also, this is just giving me serious Confessions of a Serial Kisser vibes. Anyone else? Did anyone else actually read that book?

What books are you guys excited for this December?

Top 5 Books I Want to Read Before 2019

Let's make one thing clear, these are the books I want to have read by 2019, not necessarily books I will have read by 2019. I'm really not that great at this. Also, I've already started every single one of the books on this list except one.

1. Kingdom of Ash

I have this one in my possession and have been getting through it very slowly. I most likely will have it done even by the end of this month, but you know, I wanted to have it on the list.

2. Queen of Air and Darkness

It really depends on timing with this one. I think I get this one in the mail mid-December so it's going to be a tight one depending on how much I work and how fast I read this.

3. What the Flower Says of Death

I am halfway through this one, I'm reading it because I am reviewing it for the author. I was enjoying it and for some reason cast it aside to read other books. It's horrible and I need to finish it.

4. The Chosen

Currently reading this one right now, just started actually. Hopefully, it will be done by the end of the year.

5. It

This one is just wishful thinking. I'm not going to finish it. I want to, but I probably won't. You guys probably don't remember how I said I was going to listen to the audiobook on my flight to New York and then didn't really. I mean I actually listened to about half an hour of it but this audiobook is over 40 hours long and I really don't have that kind of patience. But you know, maybe a miracle will occur and I will just suddenly have a longing to read it.
